Kipchumba bags silver for Kenya at the World Athletics Masters Championships

Kenya’s Joshua Kipchumba earned Kenya her first medal on the opening day of the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden yesterday.

The Nandi born athlete won 3,000m steeplechase title to hand Kenya her first medal at the championships after timing 10:27.45.

At 55, Kipchumba settled for silver with French international Pascal Ruiz winning gold in 10:26.54 with Juan Prieto of Spain settling for a bronze medal.

The former Kenya Defence Forces man will be aiming for other medals when he lines up in the 800m and 1,500m.

The father of five is among 26 athletes representing the country at the global championships.
