Muthaiga golf club’s Bianca Ngecu is among the top junior golfers set to face off at the Kenya Junior Match Play Championship semifinal tomorrow to qualify for the Stroke-play championships.
Ngecu will be facing off with Krish Beiju in the first semi-final before Junaid Manji taking on Tsevi Soni in the second semi-final.
Ngecu defeated Adnan Merali 5 and 4 to qualify for the second round of 16 then beat Lee Kimani 6 and 5 to advance to the quarterfinal followed by a nother win in the quarterfinals against Hazel Kuria 7 and 5 to make it to the semi-finals.
“My round was really good, I just missed a few putts that I could have made but it was really good. I expect to play well this season and hopefully win some tournaments,” said Bianca.
Beiju started with a 3 and 2 win over Mwathi Gicheru before seeing off Aarush Vara in the last 16. In the quarterfinals, Beiju was up against Kimani Gicheru and won 3 and 2.
The third semifinalist was Manji edged out Jason Mwai 4 and 3 in the first round before beating Ishan Samani by the same scores in the second round of 16. In a tough quarterfinal, Junaid Manji beat Mikael Kihara by 2 holes.
Tsevi Soni made it to the semifinals starting off with a 2 and 1 win over Maahir Patel. In the second round, he eliminated Kayden Wissanji before winning 7 and 6 against Muthusi Mukundi in the quarterfinals.
64 junior players registered for the competition that started on Monday at the Sigona Golf Club in Nairobi.
