Former Africa Games 5,000m champion Robert Kiprop and Africa Cross Country champion Cynthia Chepngeno were the winners of the second leg of Athletics Kenya cross country championships held yesterday in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Fresh from winning the Singelloop half marathon two weeks ago on October 24th, Kiprop won the men 10km title after clocking 30:38.7 ahead of ahead of first leg winner in Machakos Asbel Kiprono for second position at 30:47.7 with Vincent Kiptoo completing the podium in 31:20.4.
Competing on home course, Kiprop successfully defended the title he won last year.
Chepngeno won the 10km senior women title in 34:27.4 followed by Cardiff Half Marathon champion Miriam Chebet for second at 34:28.5 with world half marathon bronze medalist Catherine Reline coming third in 34:29.7 after finishing second in Kapsokwony last weekend.
Olympic Games 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Naomi Korir were the winners of the 2km loop as the series takes a break ahead of Sotik in Bomet County.
