Kipsang to reclaim his position at KDF Cross country

Returning from an injury, former world military 1,500m bronze medalist Emmanuel Kipsang has vowed to reclaim his position in the cross country when he lines up at the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) cross country championships set for this Friday.

The former KDF champion Kipsang will be representing Kenya Navy said he has recovered from a knee injury, ready for the challenge as he prepares to represent the country at the Africa cross country championships in Lome, Togo.

“I want to return and take my position as Emmanuel Kipsang. I want to redeem my image, not just at the KDF cross country but at the national championships, because I want to make the team for Africa cross country championships,” said Kipsang who trains in Iten.

He said that his training has been going on well, willing to run a good race, hoping for better results.

“The injury kept me off for 2019 and partially 2018 but that is back, focusing in 2020 success,” he added.

He will be competing for the first time at KDF, focusing on getting selected to the Kenyan.

Kipsang is expected to line up against Kennedy Njiru, Victor Kiplimo, Peter Matelong, Cyrus Rutto, Mark Kiptoo and Isaac Kurga among others.

In women, reigning world cross country champion Hellen Obiri is expected to lead top athletes in search of Africa title, the one missing in her medal cabinet.

Obiri, the two time world 5,000m champion surprised the world when she won the world title in Aarhus, Denmark.
