Hillary Ng’eno and Abel Kilwake will lead Kakamega County on Saturday for Athletics Kenya Western Region cross country champions to be held at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) ground.
Unfortunately, the county will not present their 10km senior women after they failed who turn up at the county meeting held last weekend.
Ng’eno won the 10km title ahead of Kilwake at the same venue in the four county championships that include Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma and the hosts Kakamega.
Western region A.K chairman Patrick Kipsang said they want to come out with a formidable regional team that will compete with others to ensure they succeed at the nationals.
He added that the weekend championships programmes have already been set, ready for the event come Saturday.
“We want to ensure that we get the best team from the counties to see if we collect maximum points at the national. We also want to have some of our runners representing the country at the continental cross country championships,” said Kipsang.
In 6km junior women Vivian Mwayo lead contingent as she partners with Faith Kanguna and Doreen Ndetti. Mwayo won the title in 21:12.24 ahead of Kanguna (22:11.05) and Ndetti’s 22:12.56.
In the junior boys’ Silas Adiva and Elisha Yatich.
The regional secretary Homer Mugalitsi said the preparations have been concluded ready to host the top notch championships.
“We have been making headways to ensure that we host the best of the best championships. The region has produced top runners and they have to enjoy the course better than others years,” said Mugalitsi.
