Edwin Kiptoo and Ethiopian Amane Beriso Shankule were crowned the champions of Mexico City marathon held yesterday in Mexico.
The Kenyan Kiptoo led a podium sweep for Kenyans when he won in 2:10.48. He defeated compatriots Kenneth Kiplagat Limo and Rhonzas Lokitam Kilimo.
He won in 2:10.48, missing the course record with 10 seconds. The race course record of 2:10.38 was set by Titus Ekiru from Kenya in 2018.
Limo was forced to settle in second place in 2:12.37 with Kilimo closing the podium three finishes in 2:13.43.
In women, Ethiopian Shankule set the course record that was held by Kenyan Vivian Kipangat in 2.33.27 to 2:25.04 as Kenya’s Cynthia Kosgei was second as other Ethiopian Muliye Dekebo Haylemariyam closed the podium three finishes in 2:36.35.
