Double Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon Chepngetich easily qualified to compete at the semifinals at the World Athletics championships in Oregon, USA.
The reigning world silver medalist won in her heat after clocking 4:04.53 and will lead compatriots led by the reigning Africa 1,500m champion Winny Chebet.
After running behind Japanese Nozomoi Tanaka, she kicked at the bell with Australian Jessica Hull and Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu.
Hull finished second in 4:04.68 while Hailu was third in 4:04.85.
Chebet qualified automatically after finishing second in her heat when she clocked 4:03.12 behind Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay who timed 4:02.68.
But it was disappointing as Judith Kiyeng and Edinah Jebitok failed to qualify.
