Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon and Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala will highlight the Monaco Diamond League set for Friday evening in France.
Kipyegon will be chasing another milestone, competing in the one Mile while Omanyala will be seeking his maiden Diamond League victory after dropping to third in the ranking after South African Akan Simbine and Jacob Kerley of the USA..
The two time Olympic 1,500m champion, who holds both 1,500m and 5,000m world record will be chasing to lower the Sifan Hassan’s four-year-old record of 4:12.33 in the mile this time around come Friday evening in France.
The two time world 1,500m champion set the 1500m world record at the Florence Diamond League on June 2 before smashing another one in the 5000m in Paris a week later.
She will be facing off with Commonwealth Games 1500m champion Laura Muir of Britain, World Indoor silver medalist Freweyni Hailu and the 2018 African bronze medalist Habitam Alemu.
Kipyegon looks to emulate compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot, who won gold in both the 5 000 m and 10 000 m events at the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea.
Kipyegon will be the only Kenyan to fly the flag in the race but Mary Moraa will be chasing her 4th Diamond League victory in the 800m.
Moraa will be the only Kenyan in the two lap race while men has attracted double Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal, Olympic and world champion Emmanuel Korir as well as Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli will renew his rivalry against Jacob Krop and Stanley Mburu Waithaka in the 5,000m.
Abraham Kibiwott and Simon Koech will face off in the 3,000m steeplechase.
