Upstarts Brian Kogo and Doreen Cherop were the winners of the 5th edition of half marathon at the Nairobi City Marathon today.
Kogo won the men’s race 60:55 followed by Jonah Kiprop Lagat timed 61:10 for second as Lampard Mutuku came third in 61:32.
Kogo said that he wants to emulate Boston Marathon champion John Korir as his mentor.
In women, Cherop powered to victory after clocking 69:19 ahead of Sylvia Changeiwo, who finished second in 70:04 and Sharon Cherotich completed the podium places after timing 1:10:30.
in the 10km race, Zakariah Gacugu and Phane Nyaboke Jairus were the winners.
Gacugu won the 10km men’s title at 27:47 followed by Shadrack Kipyegon, who came a close second in 27:48 and Enock Cheruiyot, who ran 28:03 to clinch the final podium place.
In the women’s race, Phane Nyaboke Jairus won top honours after slicing through the tape in 31:27.
Enit Moses timed 31:38 for second place as Sharon Jepchirchir rounded off the podium clocking 31:54.
