2016 rugby sevens champions Laiser Hill was the first team to win the Kenya Secondary school Sports Association (KSSSA) in Eldoret.
The Rift Valley representative won rugby sevens main cup title that came to an end today at Eldoret Sports Club after defeating Western representatives Chavakali High school 26-05.
The school last won the title in 2016 held at Kangaru school in Embu as 2015 winners St. Peter’s Mumias beat Dagoreti 24-07 to claim third place ahead of East Africa school games to be staged in Musanze, Rwanda
Laiser’s captain Clinton Kioko landed two tries with Daniel Kisakyamukama and Brunson Madigu also scoring a try each that were converted by Fredrick Odongo.
Isaac Ouma had pulled a try back for last year’s finalists but they were unable to complete a comeback as Laiser overpowered them with a strong second half display.
Laiser had beaten Mumias 26-0 while Chavakali secured their place in the final courtesy of coin toss against Dagoretti after three round of penalty kicks failed to yield a winner. The sides had tied 7-7 after sudden death.
It was the end of the road for 2017 East Africa champions Muhuri Muchiri as they bowed out at the quarters after losing 17-14 to Chavakali. In the quarters, Laiser Hill beat Muvuti 19-0, while St Peter’s had overpowered Friends School Bwake 20-17.
In the last eight clash, Dagoretti High beat Nakuru Day 12-7 in sudden death to advance to the semis.
