Kenyan international volleyball player Jane Wacu will lead Malika Strikers at this year’s Africa Championships, ahead of FIVB World championships.
Wacu was named by head coach Japheth Munala in a formidable team set for Younde, Cameroon starting this weekend in the whole week extravaganza.
Munala named a 12 traveling strong team where Wacu, who plays for Anse Royale in Seychelles will join her sister Janet Wanja to take part in the tournament.
But new comer Immaculate Chemutai from Kenya Prisons is the new caller in the squad, who plays as right attack.
The former student at Weaverbird High school Kitale, will be making her debut for the national team in Cameroon.
Head coach Munala will be assisted by Josp Baraza and Dorcas Ndasaba.
“We have prepared adequately for the championship and we won’t settle for anything less than the best overall. I have confidence in the team that we have chosen based on the merit of the players as exhibited during training,” said Munala.
Wacu and Wanja will join Captain Mercy Moim (left attacker), Noel Murambi, Leonida Kasaya, Evelyne Makuto, Violet Makuto as right attackers as middle position features former Captain Praxcides Agala, Pipeline’s Trizah Atuka and Prison’s Edith Wisa. Aggripina Kundu will be Malkia’s libero in Younde.
Kenya Volleyball federation (KVF) headed by Waithaka Kioni lauded the Sportpesa for their gesture and support of sports saying the coming of the latter on board would go a long way in boosting the discipline.
