Despite missing major Scrabble Kenya Championships, Philip Mutinda emerged victorious at the 14th Scrabble Masters Tournament that came to an end today at the Stima Club, Nairobi.
With the victory, Mutinga will be eyeing to compete at the Scrabble Kenya in Murang’a that serves as a World English Scrabble Players Association championships (WESPAC) that will be held in Accra, Ghana later in the year.
“The tournament was tough but coming out victorious was a message that I am still strong. Coming out victorious was not easy because I have been missing out on various tournaments. Since March there have been two strong matches but u missed. I used to practice despite missing to play,” said Mutinda.
He explained that the Masters tournaments are made up of players rated 1,500 and above and because they are many in the country, only 18 played.
“I was determined to play well, winning the tournament in game 18. This is good because I want to play in Murang’a and finish in top three to qualify for WESPAC,” he said.
Richard Okechi was second with Michael Gongolo completing top three positions.
