Mombasa golf club’s Matthew Wahome fired level par 219 to win the Trans Nzoia Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) on par 73 Ktale Golf Club over the weekend.
Playing on Kitale course for the first time, Wahome endured chilly and cold weather in the region to claim the title edging out Thika Sports Club Peter Rimui, Vet Lab’s Mike Kisia and home player Sammy Mulama.

“I had the best outing, winning on my first appearance in Kitale which is a memorable event forever. I had to battle rain and cold weather but that resilience paid off at the end of the day,” said wahome, the former Nyali open championships.
He started on a low note in the opening round, firing two over par 75 on Saturday morning before recorded similar one under in the second and third rounds of one under par 72 on both second and third on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
Rimui returned second with five over par 224 after he scored 77, in the first round, one over par 74 and level par 3 in the second and third rounds respectively.
Ever green Kisia completed the podium with eight over 227. Coming from Vet Lab Kisia started well with one under par 72 and sunk deep to four over par 77 and five over 78 in the second and third rounds respectively before Sammy Mulama carried home players log in 4th position with ten over par 229.
