Former Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion returned into action, finishing 6th in today’s Bomet County Athletics Kenya Cross country champions behind former Africa junior cross country champion Miriam Cherop started her senior cadre on high.
It was a good outing for Julius Tanki, who won Machakos meeting to claim men’s 10km title.
Cherono who returns in action from maternity leave will be representing Bomet County at the South Rift regional championships ahead of National; championships cum national trials ahead of world cross country championships to be staged in Eldoret on 23rd February ahead of Aarhus, Denmark date.
Cherop won a hotly contested in women’s 10km senior race winning in 32:56.1 as Cherono, who was the highlight of the event was sixth in 34:33:0.
After winning Machakos title, Tanki won the men’s 10km senior race in 28:18.0 ahead of Isaac Kemboi 28:35.1.
In women’s 6km junior race, Emmaculate Anyango was the surprise winner after timing 19:33.0 followed by Celestine Chepkirui in 19:41.0.
Edwin Koskei Kiplangat clocked 22:03.0 to win the 8km junior men’s race followed by Leonard Bett in second in a time of 22:07.2.
