Nandi’s Barno wins piga mingi title in Kakamega

Nandi Bears golfer Elly Barno won the Piga Mingi golf tournament played on Saturday on par 72 Kakamega golf club.

Handicap 4 player fired 71 Nett to win the title away from home, edging out home-based golfers with a total of 75 gross as the lowest gross winner too.

Accompanied by a host of other top players from his club including the captain Simon Chepkwony and chairman Kimutai Kenduiwo, Barno started on a high with a par in the opening hole par 5, a birdie in the second par 3 before sinking all pars in the remaining seven holes for level 36 in the inward nine.

In his second nine, he sunk pars in all holes except in 15th par 4 and 18th par 4 where he dropped a shot in each hole for three over par 39.

Host Ayub Shitseswa was in second position, losing on count back. The winner of Kenya Seed golf tournament edged out another home player G. Ombiro with 72 to close the podium as former captain Jack Songwa was in 4th position with 74 points nett.
