Moi girls’ Nangili and St. Anthony’s Kitale head coaches have confidence that the National under 16 secondary school champions will lift the inaugural Copa Coca Under 16 Africa Cup of Nations football tournament.
Nangili’s Christopher Ambeyi and his Kitale counterpart Peter Mayoyo have pitched camp in Nakuru ahead of the tournament set for December 10th to 15th at Nakuru High school and Afraha stadium.
Ambeyi’s team were the surprise winners of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) under 16 championships after defending former champion Wiyeta girls during the national championships at Hill school, Eldoret.
Ambeyi said: “With only one team coming into the competition, we will play three matches and that needs much preparations and that is what we are doing here,” said Ambeyi.
Making their debut at the nationals, they beat Wiyeta 2-0 to be crowned champions.
Mayoyo on the other hand said he has to prepare his boys well because of the large turnout in the tournament.
“We have 12 teams and we are prepared for any team and we are longing for the title not group stages,” said Mayoyo.
