Home golfer Nathan Tororei won this year’s Madson Insurance golf tournament played on Saturday on nine hole Eldoret golf club.
Shooting a blank in the opening nine, Tororei recovered well to win the tournament with 39 stable ford points in the tournament played under showers on rain.
Handicap 14 carded 19 stable points after sinking four bogeys in holes 1, 2, 5 and 6, back to back pars on holes 3 and 4. Bad lack came on eighth hole when he shot a blank but he recovered well with a bird on hole nine.
On the outward nine, he started well with a par on par four hole 10, followed by a bogey, par, back to back bogeys par, double bogey and concluded with a birdie on hole 18 for 20 stable ford points.
Tororei said that it was his maiden win in golfing career and attributed his winning formula to competitiveness of his team mates, making him play hard.
“This is my first win which should celebrate well. I must say that the day has been good day, though challenging due to rain,” said Tororei who has had less time in practising.
Natu Lakhani, who led during the day finished second with 37 stable ford points beating Nelson Orgut on count back. Handicap 19 Lakhani played 17 stable ford points in the opening nine before adding 20 in the second while Orgut recorded 19 in the inward nine and 18 in the last nine.
Lukas Chesrek came in fourth with 36 points ahead of Ahmed Ferej with 35.
Long hitters Aaron Kitur and Diana Chemweno were longest drive men and woman respectively as James Waweru and Mildred Natecho were first and second nine winners with 19 and 20 stable ford points respectively.
