World cross-country bronze medallist Agnes Jebet Ngetich and Rotich were the winners of the second leg of Athletics Kenya Cross country championships held at the kapsokwony High school ggrounds in Mt Elgon, Bungoma County today.
In a repeat of last weekend’s Kericho Cross country, Ngetich set up a sweet revenge against Enmmaculate Anyango who beat her in Kericho to claim the 10km senior title in 32:14.57 as Anyango, who fell at the finish line cam second 32:40.18 while Nelson Mandela Bay half marathon champion Betty Chepkemoi was third at 34:13.5 and world cross country junior bronze medalist Pamela Kosgei coming 4th.
Ngetich broke the women-only world 10km record in the Transylvania 10km in Brasov, Romania on September 10 with a time of 29:24 to surpass the initial time of 30:01 set by the late Agnes Tirop in Herzogenaurach, Germany in 2021 that wont be ratified due to the short distance said that she lost the Kericho race her competitor was tough.
“After last week loss, I decided to train well ahead of today’s event and that is why I have won,” said Ng’etich.
Rotich from West Pokot under Edward Moti won the men’s 10km senior race in 29:52.63 followed by Samwel Limo in 30:13.74 as Vincent Kimaiyo took third spot after clocking 30:18.21.
Rotich, who finished 12th at the World cross country championships in Bathurst, Australia said that he has changed his running skills and wants to run again at the world cross country championships next year and Olympic Games.
“I want to redeem my image again and represent the country at the World cross country and the olympic Games next year,” said Rotich.
In the junior category, Johana Erot and Jepngetich were the winners in under 20 men and women respectively.
