Nyali club to host Johnnie Walker golf series

The countrywide Johnnie Walker Golf Series moves to the Coastal region this weekend with over 150 golfers set to tee off at the Nyali Golf & Country Club.

The players will participate in the tournament’s fourball stableford format, with the top three teams qualifying to play at the tournament’s Eagles Round (semi-finals) to be played at Muthaiga Golf Club in May.

This will be the eleventh leg of the Series dubbed ‘Road to Gleneagles’ following the tenth leg played last weekend at Thika Sports Club.

The team of Bernard Mureithi Joseph Ndichu, Ruku Njuguna, and Paul Nduati scored an impressive 140 points to emerge the winners of the leg, ahead of the team of Faith Maina, George Ngamau, Naomi Kimata, and Margaret Waweru who scored 137 points, three more than the team of Dr. Isaac Charagu, Nicholas Kabare, Moses Mburu, and Esther Nyamu who claimed the third spot after returning a combined score of 134.

Speaking during the tournament, KBL’s Regional Business Development Manager Nicholas Kilungu said; “This being the 10th event of the Series, it has been a really great journey so far, and we are very delighted by the progress we have made. We are delighted to offer golfers across the country a tournament of this stature, and an opportunity to give lucky individuals the chance to travel to and play at the iconic Gleneagles Golf Course in Scotland. All this is in the spirit of KBL’s continued efforts to uplift the sport to greater heights.”

Commenting on the Nyali tournament, KBL Marketing Manager for Spirits, Josephine Katambo said;  “We are delighted to be taking the Road to Gleneagles Johnnie Walker series to the Coastal region. Nyali Golf Club is always a special venue and we are therefore excited to be taking this experience to the golfers in Mombasa. We expect very good numbers to participate and we are hopeful of nothing but a great event.”
