Menengai Oilers will be hoping to set up a sweet revenge against Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar at the inaugural Sisimuka rugby 15s tournament set for this Saturday at the Eldoret Sports Club.
Oilers, who won the national sevens series lost to Kabras during the finals played at the Kakamega’s Bullring in the 2021/2022 season in 34-28.
The tournament has attracted four teams that include Nationwide side Moi University Arsonists who will play KRU Championships Eldoret RFC.
The tournament organizer Ali Mbaraka said that the one-day tournament is a curtain raiser for Kenya Cup teams set to kick off on 26th November across the country.
“This is a good tournament coming just a week before the Kenya Cup kick off. As organizers, we are looking forward to developing the sport in the region and when such big teams come, we market the sport fully,” said Mbaraka.
He added that they also want to nurture some talents in the north rift after being left out for long.
“As a curtain raiser to the Kenya Cup, it is also a chance to market the sport in the region by nurturing some untapped talents. We need to promote the game not just to town people but to reach out to as many players as possible,” he said.
