Unbeaten Patrick Gitonga Nderitu has taken the overnight lead at the second leg of Scrabble Kenya national tournament at Parkside Villa in Kitui County.
The second-seeded player will be chasing his hat trick following his first win in 2020 in the opening leg in Nairobi.
On form, Gitonga finished rounded off the opening day with 10 wins out of ten with a spread of 762.
Michael Gongolo managed the second position ahead of tomorrow’s final with 8 wins, losing two while Martin Mwaka, the returnee from Machakos is in third place with 7 wins.
Kenya one Allan Oyende lies 4th as Onani Magwanga closes the best five places. Tomorrow promises fireworks with all 5 giants having a shot at the title.
Edwin Bii is currently leading in the Intermediate division with Tom Mboya in second place. Joshua Ogola, who promised to go for blood in Kitui is in third place. Samson Midigo is in fourth place while Frederick Ogada, another returnee closes the podium. All five are tied on 7 wins with varying spreads.
In the Open Division, Nicole Okoth is leading unbeaten with 9 wins. She is followed closely by George Mashanga on 8 wins. Andrew Mureithi is in third place with 8 wins as well but inferior spread. Teresia Muthoni closes the podium with 7 wins.
The best student on day one is Sharon Chege from Muthale Girls.
