Nandi Bears golfer Elly Barno is a delighted man after making a debut in team Kenya at this year’s Victoria Cup set for this weekend at the par 72 Kipipiri golf club.
Barno, the winner of Mt Kenya Championships, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Nyeri golf club last month said that he has been waiting for such opportunities to come through.
“My mission has been been to represent my country and that dream has come at this particular time. I am so happy and proud of the call up,” said Barno, who last year won the Nandi Bears Shield Trophy at home club.
He added that they have a good team for the championships and victory will follow them.
“Since I have wanted to play for my country and club, right now I am in top form. Together with my team we shall deliver,” said Barno.
The four day championships tees off on Thursday March 20th to Sunday March 23rd.
He will team up with captain John Lejirma, Daniel Kiragu (Muthaiga), Tsevi Soni (Sigona), Elvis Muigua (Kiambu), Josphat Rono (Golf Park), Raphael Leming’ani (Golf Park), Kevin Anyien (Golf Park), Krish Shah (Vet Lab), Ebill Omollo (Vet Lab).
Kenya will be seeking to defend the title for the 4th time consecutively. Last year, Kenya retained the Victoria Cup trophy despite drawing with their hosts Uganda at the par 72 Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
Kenya and Uganda recorded 11 points apiece but Kenya, who won the title in 2022 managed to overshadow their hosts to carry home the trophy as defending champions.
