Plateau Girls and Tumkas FC are the Uasin Gishu County Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom football tournament champions following their victory over the weekend at Huruma Grounds in Eldoret.
Plateau Girls won the tournament unbeaten and without conceding a goal as they proceeded to the North Rift Branch championships next weekend in Eldoret.
Under coach Robert Simiyu, the school girls won all their two matches played under round robin to defend their title.
In the first match, they defeated Mwiruti 2-0 with goals from Gloria Jepkemoi in the 15th minute before Faith Rotich sealed the victory on the 40th minute.
But the much hyped much was when they unexpectedly defeated Kenya Women Premier league (KWPL) Eldoret Falcons 3-0.
Experience did not play part as Falcons went down a goal down in the 16th minute courtesy of Naomi Jebitok, who connected Rotich’s cross with her head for a 1-0 lead but using her chest, Rotich doubled in the 25th minute into break as Sheila Lumadi sealed the victory on resumption in the 38th minute as they played 30 minutes in each half.
Simiyu said he is using the tournament as part of his preparations for Secondary Schools Sports association set for next term.
“Our aim as a school and a team is to win the Chapa Dimba National title to motivate us win the KSSSA title at the same time,” said Simiyu.
In boys category, Tumkas were crowned the new champions after edging out 2018 champions Mwiruti Boys.
Tumkas defaeted Hoofenbach 2-4 in post-match penalties following a barren draw in normal time.
The champions had earlier defeated Mwiruti 2-0 with Dennis Shigani netting the brace while Hoffenbach ousted Cheptiret FC in the second semifinal through spot kicks. Eddy Otieno scored in the first minute for Hoffenbach but Isaac Kiprop equalized for Cheptiret to sent the teams into penalty shots where Hoffenbach won 4-2.
