President Uhuru Kenyatta today fired then Sports Cabinet (CS) Secretary Rashid Echesa from the Ministry of Sports and Heritage and replaced him with Amina Mohammed from the Ministry of Education.
From the executive order from the president read: “In accordance with Article 152(5) of the Constitution, as read together with Article 152(1)(d) of the Constitution, the appointment of Mr. Rashid Echesa Mohamed, as a Cabinet Secretary has been vacated,” read the Executive Order.
Echesa was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on January 26, last year in the docket that elicited various reactions from Kenyans claiming that he is not an educated man and not fit for the post, which the president downplayed.
Echesa replaced Hassan Wario, who was appointed Ambassador for Kenya in Austria as Ambassador Kirimi Kaberia retained his position as Principal Secretary.
Echesa, a former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader in Kakamega, has not had it smooth – with critics questioning his academic credentials during his vetting.
