Run for Autism as Family Bank half marathon hit 13 years

“Champions Run for a course” this is the theme for the 2019 Family Bank Half marathon that enters its 13th year this Sunday in Eldoret.

The race, which has produced world beating athletes like the world half marathon record holder Geoffrey Kamworor, who is also the race ambassador, gets underway this Sunday, transversing Eldoret town streets for kshs 350,000 prize money for the champion.

According to Jacqueline Mathaga, the Family Bank Foundation manager said their proceeds are made for Corporate Social responsibility by building classes for children living with Autism in the region.

“Our main purpose is to provide a healthy environment for children living with autism and now we have build three classrooms for the children,” said Wathaga.

Kamworor, the former New York City marathon winner said he started his career at the race and has made him a big man in the world of running career.

“I competed in this race about five years ago and I did not win but at the moment, I have what it takes to tell athletes to register in big numbers to run for the course of helping the children,” said Kamworor, the three time world half marathon champion.

Kamworor who skipped world championships in Doha to concentrate on Copenhagen and New York City marathon said he has advised athletes to register on time for the race that concludes on Saturday at 4pm EAT.

Winners of the Sunday event will earn kshs 350,000 trickling down to 20th finisher who will earn kshs 5,000.
