Sally Chepyego best at Berlin marathon

Former world half marathon bronze medalist Sally Chepyego was the best runner in the 2019 Berlin marathon ran today in Germany.

As Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele missed the world record by two seconds when he won the men’s title.

Chepyego who was dropped from Kenya marathon team ahead of world championships in Doha, finished third behind Ethiopians Ashete Bekere (2:20.14) beating her compatriot Mare Dibaba to second in 2:20:22 as Chepyego managed 2:21:06.

Race favourire Gladys Cherono, who was chasing her 4th title in a hat-trick dropped after 30km.

Bekele won the title in 2:01.42 failing with two seconds shy of Kipchoge’s 2:01:39 with the former targeting a sub 2 hour porplay called INEOS 1:59 Challenge set for Vienna, Austria next month.

Bekele led compatriots Birhanu Legese) 2:02.48) and Sisay Lemma third in 2:03:36 as kenya’s Jonathan Korir dropped off.
