After dominating the 2024 cross country meetings across the country, both Asbel Kiprop Kiprono and Maureen Jepkoech continued with their superlative performance by winning the Elgeyo Marakwet County Athletics Kenya cross country championships held today at the Iten Sports Ground.

Kiprop, the winner of Kapsokwony meeting and finishing second at both Kisii and Machakos, won the 10km senior men category after clocking 27:02.3 ahead of Cornelius Kemboi (27:03.0) and Felix Kibet completing the podium at 27:18.4.

Jepkoech, the winner of both Machakos and Kapsokwony also managed to beat the newly crowned Abu Dhabi marathon champion Catherine Reline in a sprint repeat of Kapsokwony race.

The kaptagat based Jepkoech won the 10km senior women title at 30:44.0 with Reline, also the world half marathon bronze medalist at 33:45.0 as Christine Njoki completing the podium in 31:07.6.

World under 20 5,000m champion Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi and Sheila Jebet were under 20 winners in the men’s 8km and women’s 6km races respectively.

Kiptoo won the title when he cut the tape in 21:55.5 ahead of Emmanuel Kiprono’s 22:04.5 and Anthony Kibiwott’s 22:26.6 while Jebet crossed the finish line at 19:02.5 followed by Ronis Chelangat (19:09.5) and Abigail Chepnagei in 19:17.5.
