Simiu, Jelagat sparkle at Family Bank Half marathon

After failing to represent Kenya at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, national trials 5,000m champion Daniel Simiu has finally been tested after winning Family Bank half marathon in Eldoret on Sunday 6th.

It was also good for Nancy Jelagat who won the women’s title after finishing second at Kisii 10km road race last weekend.

Simiu, who won 5,000m at the national trials to select the team for world championships said his troubles for World championships are over as he focuses to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

“It was bad for me but I have forgotten that as I focus to compete in 2020 Olympic games,” said Simiu.

Simiu who, who won the national trials in 5,000m plans to compete at the Standard Chartered half marathon said he is ready to run for the nation again.

He became the 13th winner of the 21km timing 63:00 ahead of Moses Kibet (63:38) and Andrew Kipkemboi closing the podium in 63:44.

Jelagat won the women’s title 72:04 beating Deborah Sumum (72:45) and Marion Kibor in third position in 75:05.

Following her victory, Jelagat will also be chasing the Standard Chartered half marathon title later this month.

“I have been training well for this race and the right time has come for me to compete at the lucrative Chartered half marathon,” said Jelagat who trains in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet county.
