After missing out to compete for Kenya at the IAAF world championships in Doha, Qatar, Daniel Simiyu consoled himself, running away with Safaricom Kisii 10km race ran today in Kisii.

As reigning First lady half marathon champion Brilliant Jepkorir took women honours in a race that took place at Gusii stadium.
Simiyu, who won the national 5,000m title missed to wear the national colours in his career won the men’s title in 29:16.17, beating to Shadrack Kemboi to second at 29:22.82 before Leonard Langat at 29:40.90
The Elgeyo Marakwet based runner, who won the North Rift Regional championships missed to travel with Kenya team after he missed out of competition testing which is a requirement by Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
Following the miss, Simiyu and Michael Kibet were ejected from the world championships team that kicks off today, was represented by reigning Africa cross country junior champion Nicholas Kimeli and Jacob Krop.
In women’s category, Jepkorir, the winner of Central Rift cross country title won in 33:39.61, followed by local cross country runner Nancy Jelagat and Jackline Rotich finished third in time of 34:38.97.
The remaining races in the Safaricom Athletics Series calendar after Kisii are the Madoka Half Marathon, Isaiah Kiplagat Memorial Ndalat cross-country, Imenti and Kisumu road races.
