The selection exercise for the Kenya U20 football team dubbed Rising Stars concluded on Thursday, February 22 with a record player turn-out experienced in the week long exercise.
The first set of 50 players was tried on February 19 and 20, while the second batch got their chance on February 21 and 22 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The exercise, spearheaded by Harambee Stars interim coach Stanley Okumbi, was aimed at constituting a National U20 football team set to compete in upcoming Africa Youth Championships.
“Youth development remains key in our long-term agenda,” said Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Robert Muthomi.
“That is why we have not only put in place an elaborate scouting network that ensures no deserving player is left out, but that we also find quality players within the required age bracket,” he added.
The players were scouted from the ongoing Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Tournament as well as the different FKF Leagues.
The team is set to face neighbors Tanzania in a build-up friendly match in Dar es Salaam, before taking on Egypt in a two-legged friendly match, scheduled for next month.
