Ulinzi Starlets defeated Nakuru City Queens to defend their Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Cup title during today’s finals played at the Nyayo national Stadium, Nairobi.
The sildiers won 3-1 at the final whistle after Mercy Airo scoring a brace in the 10th and 14th minute before Neddy Atieno scored a goal for the champions while Caroline Wafula netted a consolation for the losers.
The win saw champions pocket kshs 500,000 while losers were rewarded with kshs 250,000.
At the same venue, Kibera Soccer Ladies defeated Kisumu All-Starlets in the third-place playoff 4-2 where Beverlyne Adika grabbed a brace for Kisumu, who took a 2-1 halftime lead.
Nancy Atako opened the scoring for former Kenya Women’s Premier League side Kibera. In the 52nd minute, the Ramadhan Vijag coached Kibera made it 2-2 through a free-kick beating Kisumu goalkeeper Grace Tambo.
Two minutes later Kibera made it 3-2 before putting the result to bed with a fourth goal in the hour mark to hand them kshs 150,000 prize money while Kisumu will take home Sh1oo,ooo.
