Upper Hill won their maiden Rugby sevens title during the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) at Shimo La Tewa grounds today.
The Nairobi based school edged out defending and two time national champions Laiser Hill 10-05 to claim their maiden title. Brian Kimani and Calvin Kaindi Mulewa made two unconverted tries for the champions while Brunson Madigu scored the only unconverted try for the finalists.
The win was a sweet revenge for Upper Hill who had lost the in 2016 to claim the title in at Kangaru School in Embu.
Laiser Academy won their maiden title in 2016 and 2018 but lost in 2017. In 2018, they edged out Chavakali high school at Eldoret Sports Club.
Western’s St. Peter’s Mumias finished third as they beat Vihiga 19-5 to join Upper Hill and Laiser Hill in qualifying for East Africa games.
In 15s rugby, Dagoretti High continued with their impressive form by reaching their first ever nationals final after beating Kangaru School 33-0. They will meet Kakamega High School who beat Alliance 22-3.
This will be Kakamega’s 10th appearance in the Schools nationals 15s final. They have won seven and lost only twice. They won three in row between 2011 and 2013 in Meru, Eldoret and Mang’u respectively.
In other results seven time rugby 15s champions Kakamega High school will be facing off with Dagoretti in the finals.
Kakamega defeated Alliance 22-03 as Dagoretti edged out Kangaru 33-00 in the semifinals.
Reigning Handball boys champions Kimilili will battle Mbooni as Kamusinga face off with Kirandich in girls. Kimilili were 31-07 winners against White House as Mbooni defeated Mangu 19-15.
Western’s Misikhu girls will ba battling out with St. John’s Kaloleni in girls’ Hockey. Misikhu were 0-2 winners aganinst Nyamira as Kaloleni edged out Kerugoya while boys’ champions St. Anthony’s Kitale will face off with Kamusinga whoer defeated St. Charles and Meru school respectively.
Buru Buru will play Kaya Tiwi in girls basketball while Laiser Hill battle Dagoretti in boys category.
