Victor Munyaka: Gaming Bill will be a game-changer

The Committee of Sports, Culture and Tourism in the National Assembly repealing the Gaming and Lotteries Act to suit the digital world from the analogue system that dates back to 1966.

Led Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka, the team is planning to come up with radical changes to streamline Gaming and Lottery industry in the country through Gaming Bill 2019.

During a public participation forum in Eldoret, Munyaka was optimistic that the process will bear fruits and regulate the gambling process, be well regulated to gain profit and the government earn tax from it.

“We are working on this Bill to minimize capital offence and give the money to the public for sports development. We want the government to collect much-needed tax to develop sports infrastructure and promote sports in the country,” said Munyaka.

He said that in the Bill, any foreigners who want to set up such business in Kenya should partner with locals to ensure that the business is run smoothly.

“Online gaming doesn’t show how much money has been earned hence evading tax. At the same time we want to protect their clients,” he said.

According to the Bill, they propose that a former winner cannot be used to advertise the company to lure other potential gamblers.

“Our intention is to create a good platform for Kenyan to enjoy business. We want to raise fees, establish enough capital, retain money in our markets among others,” added Munyaka.

They are also proposing a kshs 100 million for Casino and kshs 200 million for online gaming as starting capital.
