Wanyama to lead Lionesses as Kenya Basketball unveils provisional squad

Lithuania based Mercy Wanyama will lead top Lionesses, the national women’s Basketball team ahead of the next month’s FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers.

Today, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) named Wanyama alongside other top players ahead of the qualifiers set to shoot off on February 3rd to 8th in Cairo, Egypt under the stewardship of head coach George Mayienga and assistant Sylvia Kamau.

Wanyama will be playing alongside Felmas Koranga (United States), and Victoria Reynolds (REG, Rwanda), whose international experience is expected to enhance the team’s overall performance. 

The 2024 Most Valuable Player Bettie Kananu was the surprise omission from the Lionesses squad.
