World Athletics hand Yego wild card for Oregon trip

Former world javelin champion Julius Yego will have another opportunity to reclaim his title at the World Athletics Championships set for this month in Oregon, the United States of America.

Yego was today handed the wild card by the world Athletics governing body to compete at the championships that starts on July 15th to July 24th with Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei saying that he had a superior ranking.

It was a reprieve for the 33-year-old Yego who did not attain the World Athletics Championships qualifying standards of 85m after throwing 80.62m at the national trials for World Championships and Commonwealth late last month.

Fresh from winning the Africa Senior Athletics championships after hauling 79.62m, it will be another opportunity to shine.

Yego was only named in the team for the Commonwealth Games programmed for July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, England.
