In promoting sports among journalists in the county of Uasin Gishu among journalists to kill boredom after newsroom, the Uasin Gishu team, Hubz FC today received a donation of playing kits for home and away matches.
Dan Odhiambo, the Zaritex Managing Director said that journalists: “We have partnered with these journalists through their good and hard work they are doing in the society to promote good behavior, campaign against drug abuse and create awareness to the population.”
He said that media is actually a bridge between the producers and customers, which is a noble course hence deciding to promote them and they will still work with them.
“This is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) because they don’t just support journalists but local teams around and tournaments to promote the youth to keep them busy that will bring down their morals,” he said.
“We have to keep the youths busy so that they don’t engage in drug abuse and this other funny behaviors. Whatever we are doing today is our daily course,” he said.
UJA chairman James Gitaka acknowledged that it was a good idea for Odhiambo to come in handy to support journalists, who most of the time are engaged with duties.
“This is a good course to get such people to support our projects. He is so supportive for day to day works of journalists in the form of informing the public, educating them and apart from that, we shall be using sports to promote good reporting especially the issue of mental well being of Kenyans including journalists because the health stability is very important to us,” said Gitaka.
“We shall go a mile further to use sports to encourage people to plant trees and take care of our environment. We want to commit ourselves in working together with producers and manufacturers to do a lot of community based journalism that is in support of what journalists do,” added Gitaka.
