Kipsang end Ngeny Olympic record as he joins Cheruiyot to Tokyo finals

Abel Kipsang broke the long lasting Olympic Games 1,500m during the semifinals today at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The Olympic stadium showdown saw Kenyan ended the reign of Noah Ngeny Olympic Recird set in the 2000. Kipsang won the 1500m semi-finals in 3:31.65 beating Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen (3:32.13) and Britain’s Josh Kerr (3:32.13) who wound second and third respectively.

Kipsang broke the Olympic record of 3:32.07 set by another Kenyan, Noah Ngeny in 2000.

In another semifinal, reigning world 1,500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot (3:33.95) also qualified to the final after finishing third behind Jake Wightman who won the first semifinal in 3:33.48 with USA’s Cole Hocker taking second in of 3:33.87.

But it was disappointing as Charles Simotwo (3:34.61) failed to make it to the finals for the hat-trick.
