Western team captain Kenduiwo Mutai has high hope that they will improve in this weekend’s Tannahill Shield golf tournament that tees off at the Royal Nairobi golf club.
Mutai, who was part of 2019 Kenya team that finished second behind champions Royal are set to improve from their second finish to top of the table once the tournament comes to an end on Sunday.
The event that was canceled last year due to coronavirus has broken the culture of hosting during Ester Holidays and moved to August due to the same disese.
Confident Mutai said the shield tees off this Friday Friday morning in the first round followed by Saturday evening for the second round and the final Sunday morning.
“We have a very vibrant team and we are preparing well for the tournament. Finishing second in 2019 was not easy and this time but we now want the title,” said Mutai.
Mutai leads the Western team that consists of Aron Kitur (Eldoret), Robert Nyanjoka (Nandi Bears), Victor Maiyo (Kericho), Geoffrey Kariuki (Kisii), Peter Rimui (Nanyuki), Elli Barno (Nandi Bears), Nelson Koech (Nandi Bears), Luther Kamau (Nakuru) and John Kamais (Nakuru).
The new entrants Kariuki and Kamau have recently posted good performance in the ongoing Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series and they are expected to provide the much needed impetus to the team.
