Reigning Honolulu marathon champion Brigid Kosgei returned home today, received with dance and songs from family members, athletes and friends following her great performance at Sunday’s London marathon.
Leading family members was her husband Mathew Mitei and her daughter Faith Chepchumba at the Eldoret International Airport.
Finishing behind Vivian Cheruiyot, Kosgei, the 2016 Milan marathon champion was optimistic that her outing, despite not winning was successful.
“When I finished second, I knew my training and energy did not go to waste but won something out of it,” said the 24 year old runner.
Born and raised in West Pokot, the self made runner clocked 2:20.31, which was her personal best in the 42kmdistance.
“I am satisfied with her performance. Experience in marathon guided me to second position in such hot weather. It was not easy since the competition was tough but I managed to finish second,” said the 2015 Port Novo marathon champion.
The 2016 Milan marathon winner said she will be taking time to recover before taking on another marathon in September.
She finished second behind reigning Olympic Games 5,000m gold medalist Vivian Cheruiyot, who registered her second marathon since switching from track to road. She first won Frankfurt marathon in 2017 before last Sunday’s London in 2:18:31.
