Boston marathon: Chebet celebrates Cherono

Three time Amsterdam marathon champion Wilson Chebet was the first athlete to congratulate his training mate and two time Lawrence Cherono for winning the 123rd edition of Boston marathon ran on Monday evening in USA.

Chebet, who finished second in the 2015 in Boston said Cherono maintained what he used to do in the training that finally paid off.

“He maintained his pace until he won the race, which is good for us as Kenyan athletes edging out his competitors,” said Chebet in Eldoret.

In Kapsabet, it was fan and parting at Steve Nice Hotel in Kapsabet Town, Nandi County after Lawrence saved Kenyans from shame when Edna Kiplagat lost the title to Ethiopia’s Worknesh Dgefa.

With cooperates streaming in sponsoring major races, the partners made presentations to the athletes and fans on various topics pertaining athletics and investment.

Kenya Revenue Authority North Rift region Assistant Manager Philip Ondieki Nyaboga said that they were co – sponsoring the event since athletes are their stakeholders.

“All we want to explain to them is what taxation entails. On this we are narrowing down on the thorny issue of double taxation. We have also told them what they need to do when they jet into the country with a lot of goods that exceeds the required limit,” he said.

Former Kenyan long distance runner Moses Tanui, who won the gold medal over 10, 000 metres at the 1991 Wold Championships in Athletics in Tokyo said that Boston is a downhill race that’s why the organisers don’t recognize world record course.

“Ethiopians run knowing that there is wind. That means that one uses a lot of calories of which Ethiopians are always aware of. For you to win such a race you have to run between the rest. As Kenyans, we need to be aware of these tactics,” explained Mr Tanui.
