Suzy Chebet grabbed a hat trick to book for three slots during Uasin Gishu county police championships held at The University of Eldoret track ahead of the Rift Valley regional track and field championships to be held in Nakuru County this weekend.
It was a good season Mathias Kimeli who grabbed a brace during the championships as they chase crucial slots for ahead of National Police Service national Championships in the run-up to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Running for Kesses Sub County, Chebet grabbed her wins in 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m to book for three slots to compete at the regional championships.
Chebet won her first race of 10,000m timing 37:14.48 beating Ainabkoi’s Janet Sergon (42:59.350 in a race that attracted two runners only.
In 5,000m, Chebet clocked 17:48.71 for the title ahead of Emily Chirchir (Kapseret) in 25:07.31 and Mercilyne Rutoh of Ainabkoi in 26:32.39.
She ended the day with a win in 1,500m when she timed 5:22.54 beating Kapseret’s Linah Chebichii (8:14.48) and Stella Cheyech’s 8:52.40 running for Turbo.
Kimeli won 5,000m and 10,000m to book three slots at the regional championships.
Representing Soy sub county, Kimeli won 10,00m title as his first title by clocking 30:10 ahead Kapseret’s Cyprine Ongaka who clocked 33:32 and Wilson Ochieng running for Ainabkoi completing the podium in 37:09.
“My target is to make it to the nationals trying to book for Olympic games,” said Kimeli.
In his second race, Kimeli won the 5,000m timing 15:11.34 leading Ongaka (17:35.67) and Emmanuel Ambunye’s 19:31.32 competing for Ainabkoi.
As Chebet reigns supreme in women, Julius Munyao, running for Moiben won the men’s 1,500m title edging out his compatriots John Misat and Reuben Kasembeli.
The event also saw banned Francisca Koki return after serving her four years ban.
The Kapseret based runner from Langas Police station will be using the shows as she returns slowly into the championships.
