Double Olympic games champion Beatrice Chebet, triple Olympic Games 1,500m champion and reigning 100m Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala were the winners at the Xiamen Diamond League in China.
The double world cross country champion won the 5,000m race with a meeting record and world lead of 14:27.12, beating Ethiopian duo of Gudaf Tsegay (14:28.18) and Birke Haylom (14:28.80) who finished second and third respectively.
Another Kenyan Caroline Nyaga managed 8th position at 14:33.24.
Kipyegon won the 1,000m title when she clocked 2:29.21 ahead of Australian pair of Abbey Caldwell to second at 2:32.94) and Sarah Billings to third in 2:33.45.
The African 100m record holder Omanyala clocked 10.13 in the men’s 100m, behind South African Akani Simbine who ran 9.99 for the win with Great Britain’s Jeremiah Azu finished third in 10.17.
This was the second battle between Simbine and Omanyala this year, with Simbine winning the double.
The two also met at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix in Gaborone, Botswana on April 12 where the world indoor 60m bronze medalist clocked 9.90 to win the men’s 100m.
Simon Kiprop Koech was the top Kenyan, finishing third in 8:07.12 in men’s 3,000m steeplechase in a race won by Ethiopian Samuel Firewu (8:05.61) followed by Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali at 8:06.66.
Others Kenyans led by world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Edmund Serem was 4th at 8:08.50 and double Commonwealth games 3,000m silver medalist Abraham Kibiwot was 7th at 8:10.13.
