Sheila Chelangat and Vincent Kibet Langat were the winners of the 2024 Betika cross country championships held yesterday in Kericho county.
Chelangat won the 10km senior women title in 33:18.96 while Langat won the men’s side at 30:04 to pocket kshs 150,000.
The 27-year-old Chelangat showcased her relentless strength, finishing triumphant, said “I’m truly honored to have won this race. It was a great experience running here in Kericho. The terrain was challenging but it pushed me to give my best. I’m grateful to the organizers for such a fantastic race and supporting athletes like us,” said Chelangat.
At 36, Langat said that it was one of the toughest courses he has ever run, but the energy from the crowd and the beauty of the Kericho landscape kept him me going.
The event also extended its support to senior athletes aged 50 and above where Francis Bowen completed a 4km in 12:55 as Joyce Kirui crossed the finish line in 8:00 in men and women to pocket 30,000 for their remarkable efforts.
Eric Mwiti, the Brand Manager, commented on the brand’s commitment to supporting sports development at all levels.

The cross country attracted over 800 amateur and professional athletes from across the country, kicking off in the county’s iconic tea farms in a thrilling 10-kilometer event and 4-kilometer race for senior athletes.
