Fresh from dominating North Rift ladies open championships Faith Chemutai and North Rift representative Jane Koech will be the key players at this weekend’s Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Open Meeting at the par 72 Vet Lab golf club.
The 54 hole tournament according to the draw released on Thursday has attracted 60 golfers from across the country to battle for title.
Chemutai from Nandi Bear’s golf club won all the North Rift Ladies Open titles starting from Kitale, Eldoret and her home club Nandi Bear’s to earn the slot for the Vet Lab meeting that tees off of Friday to Sunday.
She said that the three wins should replicate what will be happening at Vet lab since she has been training for the same.
“I will be heading to Vet lab with the purpose of playing well and come home with victory. I have had good plays in the north rift and that will carry me well to good score,” said Chemutai.
As a single handicap player, Chemutai missed an opportunity to represent the country at the 2023 Magical Kenya Ladies Open at Vipingo Ridge earlier this year.
Chemutai will tee off on the first tee at 8.30 in a team of Mwongeli Nzioka and Eleanor Wambui.
Koech, the former Eldoret ladies’ captain says she is a good silver division player who wants to do her best at the tournament.
“I have been training at the Eldoret club in readiness for the title. As a good player, I want to play best,” says Koech.
However, she laments that Vet lab course in hard and long compared to Eldoret one but that will not kill her spirit.
“These two courses are totally different. Vet is long and hard while Eldoret is easy and short but that will not dampen my spirit as a chase the victory away from home,” she adds.
Koech will tee off at 7.20am on the first tee alongside Mary Wainaina and Grace Wanjohi in the second flight after Susan Ngure, Susan Mwanzia and Navyaa Nagda.
