Jackline Chepkoech gold and Faith Cherotich bronze in women’s 3,000m steeplechase cemented top position for Kenya at the ongoing World under 20 Athletics championships at the Kasarani stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
Chepkoech won the third gold for Kenya after Benson Kiplagat won the 5,000m gold and with Levy Kibet settling for bronze and Teresiah Muthoni gateri winning gold with Zena Jemutai settling for silver in 3,000m women for a total of 6 medals by close of business today.

The 18 year old Chepkoech won the title timing 9:27.40 as Cherotich settled for silver in 9:44.76 and Ethiopian Zerfe Wondermagegn in between for silver timing 9:35.22.
“Today’s race was well organized and winning was good as I plan to join senior team next year for Commonwealth Games,” said Chepkoech.

She also dedicated her gold to her parents and coaches who have played a critical role in her running career as a junior runner.
“This is a special medal for my family led by my parents and coaches, more so to the almighty God for the good health,” said Jepkoech.
Cherotich, a form two student at Sugutet secondary school said that she will have another opportunity to compete for juniors at the 2022 Cali Colombia.
“Am still at 16 and I will be representing the country at the world under 20 again next year. This bronze will be of great help to propel my career,” said Cherotich.
