Eldoret City marathon race director Moses Tanui has urged all registered athletes for this year’s race to collect their running numbers on time to avoid last minute rush.
Speaking in Eldoret, Tanui, the two time Boston marathon champion said the race has attracted international athletes and gaining international standards, they will have to follow the laid down rules.
“We want all those athletes who will register for the race to come and pick their bib numbers on time. This will help us as organizers to come up with a secure and smooth running and get the exact number of athletes competing,” said the former world 10,000m silver medalist.
After receiving electronic bib numbers, Tanui said athletes are eager to compete in the next month’s after a long break due to the pandemic, there it was rescheduled from April 11th to 6th June after president Uhuru Kenyatta allowed sports resumption, lifting the suspension imposed on 26th March.
He also communicated to athletes that bib numbers should collected between June 3rd, 4th and 5th not on the material day of the race.
“I want to warn athletes and Kenyans who like coming late. With this race, we want to tell them that there will be no registration or bib collection on the material day on Sunday 6th June 2021. Anybody who would have registered and never collected their numbers o time will not compete,” warned Tanui.
When they will be through with registration on 2nd June, they will start bib issuance the following day where he has warned that there will be not extension of either registration or bib collection.
