Immediate Kitale golf captain Patrick Kae has set his focus to drive home a heifer when Kenya Seed Golf tees off this weekend on the 18 hole Kitale Golf club.
The two day event dubbed Kenya Seed Classic is the climax for the seed producing company which attracts top handicap players from across the country with the winner earning a heifer plus other goodies.
The 18 hole tournament that tees off on Saturday to Sunday, Kae said he has been training well on the course to ensure that he gets the best results on a congested field.
With such prizes, more than 100 golfers from north rift clubs are expected to tee off especially from Eldoret, Nandi Bears and western’s Kakamega, who have been battling for top prizes.
After losing the title for many times, finishing in second position, Kae said he is practicing, training, sharpening skills for the cow.
“For many occasions I have been missing out the title but this year, I want to want a difference. I want to win that cow. I want to drive home that heifer,” said Kae.
“At the same time, this is one of the biggest tournament in our club and for well-known reasons, each golfer will be hoping to play his or her best especially with the new World Handicap System. Individually, am well prepared to face the stiff competition,” said Kae who served as the captain in the 2019/2020 period.
Kenya Seed’s Senior Corporate Communication Officer Jane Gitau said the tournament is the climax of all the tournaments in their series where golfers will offer a scintillating and serious challenge for the title in the annual series tees.
She said that due to the coronavirus, they may not have as many series unlike in the past but the few meetings is set to attract many golfers.
“Our target is to meet our customers as well as farmers who have been promoting our company as this is the planting season for many parts of the country. As a company, planting and playing is a similar thing because it is so involving,” said Gitau.
She added that it is a reunion for the golfers after a year out of the greens due to the coronavirus as they are set to adapt new life away from the normal situation they have been used to in their interaction.
“Golf is returning and the journey that teed off in Eldoret last month will come to an end in Nyeri next month. As a company, we have to follow the ministry of health protocols, adapting into the new life, activities among other things. It is a change that we have to follow,” she said.
