Kenyan veteran professional golfer Dismas Indiza recorded his 7th Uganda Open golf tournament victory that came to an end on Saturday evening at the par 72 Uganda golf club.
His superlative performance of five under par 65 in the 4th and final round earned Indiza the title after coming from behind, beating round one, two and three leader Ronald Rugumayo, who was the favouite the tournament that teed off on Wednesday in the 72 hole four day tournament.
The Kakamega golf club member came from two strokes behind on the final round, two and three leader Rugumayo won his 7th title on the course after 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2018
He started off with an eagle on hole one par five, successful birdies on two par 4, three par 5, and five par 5, eight par 5 with pars in 4 par 3, six par 4, 7 par 4 and dropping one in 9th par 3 for a total of -4 32 in the first nine while playing in the second last group.
His return was challenging, firing birdies on 13 and 16 pars 5 and 4 respectively with pars in 10th, 12th, 13th 14th, 15th and 18th and bogeyed in 11th and 17th for one under par 35 to enable him finish with a five under par 67.
With the score, adding on his round 1-3 of 72, 67 for a total of 11-under for the title.
The Ugandan Rugumayo finished tied in second with -8 280 with Namibian Paulino Kasoma with Ugandan Philip Kasozi coming 4th as Zimbabwe’s Visitor Mapwanya, who plays in the Safari Tour series shared position five with Kenya’s Njoroge Kibugu.
