KCB beat Nondies to win Impala Floodlit title

KCB defeated Nondescripts to win the Impala Floodlit title during the final at the Impala club yesterday.

The Andrew Amonde led side won narrowly 25-23 to become the most successful team in the history of the Impala Floodlit tournament 10 titles, surpassing Mean Machine who have nine.

The bankers drew first blood courtesy of Peter Kilonzo’s try with Darwin Mukidza converting for a 7-0 lead.

Nondies, keen to avenge last year’s loss to the same opponents, replied with two penalties from Calvin Sheunda to trail 6-7 at the interval.

On resumption, Mukidza extended the bankers’ lead with a penalty only for Sheunda to bring Nondies within a point at 10-9.

The former Kenya Simbas international then added two penalties to widen the lead to 16-9.

Nondies regrouped and piled on the pressure and their efforts bore fruit when Moseti Nyaena with Sheunda combined to send the game into extra time.

Mukidza continued with his heroics, slotting home three penalties to give the bankers a nine-point cushion at 25-16. Nondies skipper Charles Odhiambo scored a late consolation try for Nondies with Sheunda converting.
