Jackson Kiprono produced a superlative performance to claim the inaugural National Bank of Kenya (NBK) golf tournament title played today on nine hole Eldoret Golf Club.
Playing on home turf, Kiprono, who represented the club at the 2018 KCB Karen Masters golf tournament, carded a solid 42 stable ford points to lift the title.
The handicap 17 golfer played 22 points in the inward nine before adding 20 in the last nine to beat second placed Satwinder Sagoo with three points to 39 stable ford points.
He started well with back to back pars on first, second and third holes in par five, three and four before sinking five bogeys consecutively from holes four par four to hole eight par four and concluded the first nine with a par on par five.
Using home experience, Kiprono sunk five pars, two bogeys and two double bogeys in the outward nine for victory.
He said the win was part of his luck following intensive training since the club has not been having many tournaments recently.
“I have not been winning recently but today’s win came about by intensive training because we had few tournaments. The training has sharpened my skills,” said Kiprono.
Sago, who in the second flight played 17 points in the front nine before adding her 22 in the back nine to finish second ahead of Nelson Orgut with a point less, 38.
Long hitting Mutai Kenduiwo, who serves as the Nandi Bears Golf Captain won the longest drive men while Linda Tororei won the ladies prize on hole 13. Home player Braian Chemjor was the nearest to the pin prize winner on hole 7.
Habil Waswani, the bank’s secretary said they are making inroads among golfers who play a critical role in development of business.
“Being a national institution, we had to organize for such an event to tap into the business world and golfers play a critical role in business development,” said Waswani.
